In case you haven’t heard, the powers that be at Pantone have declared Emerald as the colour for 2013. It seems like an awful lot of pressure for one little colour if you ask me–but you didn’t… so moving on.
You’ll probably be seeing Emerald everything for the next couple of months , if not longer, and while I’m more of a forest green kinda girl, I’ll probably be adding a few emerald touches to my beauty wardrobe.
How? Well come now, be sensible. Green blush isn’t likely to become a cult classic, and green lipstick probably won’t appeal to everyone (but to each their own I suppose), so the most logical place for this jewel tone is eyes and nails.
Wizard of Eyes
I’m not known for wild eye make-up looks, but I do love a good punch of colour now and then–especially green as it brings out the green in my eyes.
A Splash of Colour
A wash of colour over the lid provides just the right amount of green without being too dramatic. You can use a powder shadow like Obsessive Compulsive’s Loose Colour Concentrate (one of my new favourite brands) in Chlorophyll. Or try a creme shadow like Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Cream in Emerald Green.
Try swapping out your traditional neutrals for an emerald smokey eye.
Get In Line
A subtle way to wear the colour of the year? Wear it as a liner! Thick or thin, top, bottom or both lash-lines–it’s up to you! I love using forest green for this.
Or try an eye shadow with an angled liner brush.
Another MUFE Aqua Shadow Pencil is currently at the top of my beauty shopping list.
Paint the town…green?
Green nails, why how very Sally Bowles of you!* I might have to take a true emerald green out for a spin like this one from Illamasqua.
But my current favourite colour is this gorgeous dark green that I found in the fall (so ahead of the game) from Boots No.7.
*For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, that’s a serious theatre geek reference from Christopher Isherwood’s ‘Goodbye to Berlin’, upon which the musical Cabaret was loosely based. In the book the british Cabaret singer Sally Bowles often sports green polish on her nails. So now you know.
